Letter to the MEPs

The European Elections are over so it is time for the signatories of the Manifesto of the Commons to take active part to put the commons in the European political agenda 2014-2020.

The first step to take is to create an inter-group within the European Parliament.

Below the letter we addressed to the newly elected MEPs who had signed the Manifesto.

Dear Madame, Dear Sir

as a candidate you signed our pledge about the Commons in Europe, now that you have been elected to represent European citizens at the European Parliament (congratulations!) we count on you for including the Commons in the European agenda for next legislature.

From a more practical point of view we count on you to establish the Intergroup on the Commons.

Inter-groups will be settled in September at the official beginning of the Parliamentary activities but it is necessary to plan ahead in order to be ready at the right moment.

To establish an intergroup within the EP MEPs from at least three groups are needed. Each parliamentary group has limited number of signatures that can be used to establish inter-groups. The allocation scheme is determined at the beginning of each parliamentary term and considering the results of the election it might vary importantly from the last legislature (2009-2014) when the allocation was as follows: EPP 21- S&D 21 -ALDE 10- VERTS/ALE 8 - ECR 8 - GUE/ NGL 6-EFD 5 (Please find here the general rules about inter-groups establishment: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/pdf/intergroupes/2012_Rules_EN.pdf).

We need to be sure that we can count on you (and therefore on your group) to proceed! And plan together how to do so.

We are available for meetings, sharing ideas and any kind of information since now (we could even start brainstorming about what we could do as a very first activity of our intergroup).

Some technical aspects are also to be defined once we establish the inter-group.
